My 2022 Highlights
Paddy Morgan gives his top five personal highlights from 2022
Captain
I have really enjoyed been Captain of Irish Blind Golf in 2022. I have gained more confidence of speaking in front of people especially when it comes to presenting prizes at monthly outings. I also have a role on the committee and I feel that my views brings something different to the table. I played a massive role as captain in receiving sponsorship for our annual Irish Blind Golf Classic at Beechpark Golf Club in June 2022. With been the youngest captain of IBG, I have plans to develop the game to a younger audience especially at our Come & Try sessions at both Elm Green and Fota Island Driving Range. I hope 2023 is even better than 2022 and it would be fantastic if the ISPS Handa Irish Open could go ahead before my time as captain comes to an end.
Journalism HND
This is were I found a passion to be a sports journalist as I started a Journalism HND course at Colaiste Dhulaigh college in September 2020. I learned to write, record and produce a video and magazine throughout the first year. My highlights from year one was a written piece about VAR which included quotes from The Independent Chief Football Correspondent Miguel Delaney and a sports round up on The LockIn radio show were I caught up with RTE Sport analyst Alan Cawley to get his views on no crowds at football matches. The highlights of year two was that I produced a podcast called Paddy Tees It Up which focused on the health aspect to golf and it included a interview with three-time major champion Padraig Harrington. My greatest moments from college life was when I became a producer for a Magazine & Features video highlighting different campuses and courses within the four Colaiste Dhulaigh college’s. My motivation levels were fantastic and I love proving people wrong especially with having a disability asI got three Distinctions, three Passes & nine Merits from 15 modules in graduating from Journalism HND.
Feature
Graduating as a journalist has given me great opportunities which includes been a feature writer for the Irish Daily Star. Twitter is a great platform in reaching out to editors and the editor of the Irish Daily Star has been fantastic in given me work as a feature writer. My first article included quotes from Irish professional golfer Leona Maguire Who plays on the LPGA Tour. My second article was even better as it was a transcribed interview from three-time major champion Padraig Harrington. My latest article included quotes from a transcribed interview with 2019 Champion Golfer Of The Year Shane Lowry. It has been a big honour to get three articles published in a national newspaper and my plan is to continue writing articles as a feature writer in 2023.
Podcast
After creating the podcast for a college module, it gave me the idea that it’s possible to create a podcast with having multiple episodes. The name of my podcast is Paddy Tees It Up and it reviews & previews the biggest sporting events throughout the world. I have created 10 episodes throughout 2022 with having 30 interviews from sports journalists and commentators. My three biggest interviews were with four-time World Snooker champion John Higgins, three-time major champion Padraig Harrington and 2019 Champion Golfer Of The Year Shane Lowry. My plan is to keep growing my podcast and the first episode of series two will be produced in January 2023.
Website
In 2022 I created my own website called Paddy Morgan Writer. My website has four sections home which tells who I am and includes pictures, blog is were you can view all my articles and look at above mentioned pieces in the Irish Daily Star, contact is were you can check out my social media channels and podcast is were you can click on all my episodes and listen to Paddy Tees It Up. My website is very informative and it would be really appreciated if you can take the time to check it out. I will be continuing to update my website by adding articles, pictures and episodes of my podcast in 2023. I am very happy that I created my own website and it’s a portfolio to share with editors for future work as a journalist.
