Two tournaments on at the same time
There wasn’t much of a break for DP World Tour as two tournaments took place four days after Nicolai Hojgaard’s win in Dubai. DP World Tour boss Keith Pelley told Sky Sports Nick Dougherty that there will be certain stages in the 2024 season with two tournaments taking place at the same time. Royal Queensland hosted the Australia PGA Championship where as the Joburg Open took place in South Africa. As a golf fan it will be interesting to see whether two tournaments at the same time will work or not.
Min Woo Lee is LPGA golfer Minjee Lee’s brother. Lee’s best finish on the PGA Tour this season was a top six finish at The Players Championship. Lee went into the Australia PGA Championship in good form after a top 15 finish at the DP World Tour Championship. Lee was very impressive as he shot 20 under over four rounds to win the Australia PGA Championship.
Lee was under pressure with been a home favourite but it must be a special feeling to win your home open. Lee joins special company as major winners Adam Scott and Cameron Smith have also won the Australia PGA Championship. Lee has a good swing and has no weaknesses in his game from tee to green. This was a great win for Lee and his game is good enough to win a major in the future.
Australian’s Marc Leishman, Adam Scott and Cameron Davis played well as they all finished inside the top 10. 2022 Open Championship winner Smith was in the field for the Australia PGA Championship but missed the cut on nine over. Irish golfer Conor Purcell made the cut and finished in a tie for 61st. Northern Ireland’s Tom McKibbin also made the cut but finished in a tie for 67th.
Thriston Lawrence had a Sunday to forget as he shot a round of five over. Dean Burmester shot an impressive round of six under to win the Joburg Open. Dan Bradbury impressed yet again to finish third. It was good to see Christian Bezuidenhout returned to form as he finished in a tie for seventh.
It was confirmed that Bernd Wiesberger will return to DP World Tour for the 2024 season. Wiesberger played in 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits but joined LIV Golf in 2022. In golf news there is fresh rumours of Jon Rahm joining LIV Tour. It would be damaging if true as he is one of the best players in the game to watch. Tiger Woods Golf League was to start in January but is now delayed due to the roof collapsing.
