How I got involved with Irish Blind Golf
When I was attending a residential house through Child vision when I was in Rosmini I got involved in playing soccer leisurely it was in Donnycarney and it was on a Thursday evening and I was invited to play soccer in Vision sport Ireland’s May Fest and on one of the information sheets there was a contact number for Irish Blind Golf
at the time my sight was starting to get worse and I was playing golf leisurely at the time with my dad and brothers and I was starting to really enjoy playing the sport plus I was starting to get good playing the game so I said why not join a group like that
When my dad rang the number they said that I could come along to one of their outings and they said that I could play which was at Westmanstown Golf Club which was in July of 2013 I was a bit nervous going out that day because I never meet the people before and I wasn’t sure how it was going to go
they were all very polite and pleasant in inviting me into their group I actually enjoyed the game that I played with them in Westmanstown and since then I have regularly attended outings and it’s a great way to meet up socially also since then I have been one of Irish Blind Golf’s leading players
I have never looked back since then also it’s great to play with a group that all have similar eye conditions also when you’re playing with them there’s no pressure because were in the same position what I mean by that golf courses gives us plenty of time before anyone else comes out after us which is great because golf is a game that can’t be rushed
By joining this group it has done wonders for my confidence and social skills and it’s one of things that keeps me positive which is vital and if anyone else that you know that is visually impaired and is either interested in golf or giving up golf because of the eye sight we will be delighted to help in getting people back out to the fairways
