A second day of -2 for Rory McIlroy at Valero Texas Open
Rory McIlroy started his second round of Valero Texas Open on -3. McIlroy played with Rickie Fowler and Tommy Fleetwood for a second consecutive day in a row. This group started their round at the 10th hole. McIlroy hit an excellent shot from 140 yards and held his birdie putt to reach -4.
McIlroy’s second shot at 14 found a greenside bunker but was unsuccessful in getting up and down for birdie. A poor tee shot at 16 and a disappointing chip resulted in a bogey for McIlroy. The Northern Irishman shot a front nine of 35 and headed to the first hole -4.
McIlroy took advantage of a big drive and achieved an up & down from 36 yards at his 14th hole to reach -5. The four-time major champion hit an extremely poor shot at the ninth hole but managed to escape with a par. McIlroy is on -5 due to shooting a round of 70.
