Justin Thomas is looking for his first win of 2023 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic

Justin Thomas is an American golfer who turned professional in 2012. Thomas has one some of the biggest events throughout the world which includes winning The Players Championship at Sawgrass in 2021. Thomas has also won two majors which were both the PGA Championship in 2017 and 2022. The American’s final round at Southern Hills was unbelievable as he came from seven behind to win the PGA Championship. Thomas has won 17 times as a professional and was ranked number one in the world golf rankings for 15 weeks in 2018.

Since the win at Southern Hills Thomas has struggled for the remainder of 2021/2022 season as he only achieved two finishes inside the top 10. Thomas had two disappointing results at the two final majors of 2022 as he finished tied 37th at the US Open and in a tie for 53rd at The Open Championship. Thomas showed signs of encouragement as he finished fifth at the Hero World Challenge in December 2022. Thomas has the best record of an American to play in two Ryder Cup’s as he has won six points and is looking to continue his fantastic performances at Rome in 2023.

The American teed it up seven times before the first major of 2023 but only achieved one finish inside the top 10 which was at the Waste Management Phoenix Open. The weather delayed Masters didn’t suit Thomas as he missed the halfway cut. Thomas played at both the RBC Heritage and Wells Fargo Championship but his best finish in these events was a tie for 14th. Oak Hill was the venue for 2023 PGA Championship were Thomas had hopes of winning his third major. His hopes slowly disappeared as Thomas failed to impress and ended up finishing in a tie for 65th.

Since the PGA Championship Thomas participated in both The Memorial and US Open. His unfortunate struggles continued as he missed the cut at both The Memorial and US Open. Finally there was signs of encouragement of Thomas best game returning as he shot rounds of 62 and 64 at the Travelers Championship. Thomas shot a final round of 67 to finish inside the top 10 in a tie for ninth at the Travelers Championship.

Thomas is currently ranked 66th in the latest FedEx Cup rankings. Top 70 players will qualify for the 2023 FedEx Cup play-offs and Thomas can’t afford anymore poor performances. Thomas is making his debut at this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic and tees off at 6:05PM Irish time. Thomas needs to take inspiration from his fellow American Rickie Fowler as he is currently ranked 35th in the world golf rankings.

Thomas is currently ranked 73rd for putting statistics in the 2022/2023 PGA Tour season. Thomas is having a poor season as he is now 18th in the world golf rankings. Hopefully Thomas can build on his good finish at the Travelers and play well again at this weekend’s Rocket Mortgage Classic. Royal Liverpool is the venue for this year’s Open Championship and Thomas could potentially have a good chance if he finds a hot putter. Thomas is ranked 12th in the Ryder Cup rankings and will have to finish in the top six to qualify automatically for his third Ryder Cup in 2023.

Hopefully Thomas will provide good shots for the crowds this week and I wish him the best of luck in achieving another great finish at the Rocket Mortgage Classic.
