Rory McIlroy takes a one shot lead into the final round

Rory McIlroy started his third round of the Genesis Scottish Open on 10 under. The Northern Irishman got off to a perfect start as he stitched his wedge shot on the first hole for a tap in birdie. The third hole at The Renaissance is a par five and McIlroy was on the edge of the green in two after a 350 yard drive and a five iron. He played the first three holes in two under to reach 12 under. He escaped the fourth with a par but McIlroy failed to achieve a birdie at the short par four fifth.

McIlroy reduced the par four seventh to a 355 yard drive and a 134 yard wedge shot to set up a kick in birdie. His second shot at the par four eight came up short in a bunker but got up and down for a par. McIlroy tapped in a short range par putt to shoot a front nine of 32. The 10th at The Renaissance is a par five and McIlroy was putting for an eagle after a 365 yard drive and a six iron from 231 yards. McIlroy settled for a birdie to reach 14 under.

The 11th was another par four were McIlroy hit a drive over 360 yards which resulted in a par. His tee shot with a nine iron on the par three 12th ended up off the green which resulted in a bogey after missing a putt for par. He bounced back immediately from the bogey as he holed a fantastic putt for birdie on the 14th hole. McIlroy had 143 yards for his second shot on the 15th hole which he misjudged due to the wind and ended up with a disappointing bogey.

The 16th hole is a reachable par five for McIlroy and was forced to lay up after missing the fairway with his tee shot. His third shot ended up on the edge of the green but managed to hole a putt for par. McIlroy missed the green with his tee shot on the 17th but played an incredible chip shot to guarantee a tap in par. McIlroy had a long range putt for birdie on the 18th hole but achieved a par to shoot a third round of 67. McIlroy holds a one shot lead over Tom Kim with one round to go at The Renaissance.

Shane Lowry is also in the mix with one round to go after shooting a third round of 65. The highlight of Lowry’s third round was getting an eagle at the par five 10th. Padraig Harrington is inside the top 20 on seven under after shooting a third round of even par. Tom McKibbin is inside the top 40 after shooting a third round of three under.

The weather is going to be wild for the final round with expected gusts of over 40 miles per hour. It’s going to be an exciting final round and hopefully it’s the day were Rory McIlroy wins his first Genesis Scottish Open.
