Lionel Messi is looking for silverware in Qatar
Lionel Messi is currently 35 years old. Messi has a glittering career ever since he burst onto the seen with Barcelona from making his debut in 2004. He scored a ridiculous tally of 672 goals with Barcelona and winning a remarkable four UEFA Champions League’s with the Spanish club. He was at his peak when Pep Guardiola was manager of Barcelona especially when they beat Man United in both 2009 & 2011 UEFA Champions League Final.
Messi still managed to set records at Barcelona until he left for PSG in 2021. PSG have never won the Champions League but thought they had the final piece of the jigsaw after signing Messi. Messi has struggled since arriving in Paris as he has only scored 23 goals from 51 appearances. Both Ronaldo on 701 and Messi on 695 goals as they have set incredible records in the club game over the last 15 years. Many debates of who is better but my opinion is that I have been lucky to watch two greats of football in my lifetime.
Messi has played in four World Cup’s for Argentina. As good as Messi is, he has not won a World Cup. It just has not happened for him but came close as Argentina lost the 2014 World Cup Final 1-0 to Germany after extra time. He finally won a trophy with his national team as Argentina won the 2021 Copa America Final against Brazil in 2021.
It has been just announced that Messi will play in his fifth World Cup in 2022. He does not have the pace anymore but still has creativity and a amazing football brain. Diego Maradona was the greatest footballer to come from Argentina as he won the World Cup in 1986. My opinion is that Messi will go down as the greatest footballer from Argentina especially if they win the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Anything can happen at this year’s World Cup especially with it happening in November. Hopefully Messi can rewrite the football record books again with hopefully going all the way to success in Qatar.
