Sentry Tournament of Champions preview

You qualify for this tournament by winning a PGA Tour event in the previous 12 months. In 2023 it was an unbelievable finish as Jon Rahm came from seven behind to win the Sentry Tournament of Champions. Rahm won on the PGA Tour in 2023 but can’t play in this year’s edition due to joining LIV Golf. There is a good field for this year which includes FedEx Cup champions Viktor Hovland & Patrick Cantlay and major champions in Scottie Scheffler, Brian Harman, Collin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark & Jordan Spieth. Irishman Seamus Power is also in the field and hopefully 2024 is an injury free season for the West Waterford star.

In 2021 Collin Morikawa finished in a tie for seventh at Sentry Tournament of Champions. In 2022 Morikawa finished tied fifth in Sentry Tournament of Champions. Morikawa had a final round to forget in 2023 as he let a seven shot lead slip and settled for a runner-up finish. Morikawa only won one match at 2023 Ryder Cup but was outstanding as he won the ZOZO Championship. Morikawa played his final event of 2023 at Hero World Challenge and the American finished inside the top 10. I think Morikawa will win the Sentry Tournament of Champions this weekend.

Patrick Cantlay finished fourth In 2020 Sentry Tournament of Champions. 2020 wasn’t the only year that Cantlay played well in this event as the American finished fourth in 2022 Sentry Tournament of Champions. Throughout 2022/2023 PGA Tour season Cantlay finished inside the top 10 eight times. Cantlay held a couple of great putts to earn a half point with Wyndham Clark against Rory McIlroy and Matt Fitzpatrick in day two foursomes of 2023 Ryder Cup. I think Cantlay will finish in the top five this weekend.

In 2023 Tony Finau finished in a tie for seventh at the Sentry Tournament of Champions. Finau played in both 2018 and 2021 Ryder Cup’s but missed out on 2023 edition. Finau played his final event of 2023 at Hero World Challenge were the American finished in a tie for fourth. I believe that Finau will finish in the top five this weekend.

Ludvig Aberg turned professional in 2023 and won his first event on the DP World Tour at Omega European Masters. Aberg was a part of Europe’s 2023 Ryder Cup winning team at Marco Simone. 2023 was a memorable year for Aberg as he also won his first PGA Tour event at the RSM Classic. I think Aberg will finish in the top 10 this weekend.

Matt Fitzpatrick finished in a tie for seventh in 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions. Fitzpatrick had another strong season in 2023 with winning RBC Heritage and winning his first point at the Ryder Cup. The Englishman played his final tournament of 2023 at Hero World Challenge were Fitzpatrick finished in a tie for fourth. I think Fitzpatrick will finish in the top 10 this weekend.

Hope you enjoy the Sentry Tournament of Champions.
