My 2023 Golf highlights

Brian Harman wins The Open at Royal Liverpool

Brian Harman shot three under in his first round at Royal Liverpool. Harman made four birdies in a row to shoot a second round of 65. Harman was exceptional as he maintained his big lead over the weekend to win The Open Championship. Harman’s short game was incredible at Royal Liverpool as he was the only player to shoot four under par rounds. Harman showed at Royal Liverpool that an amazing short game makes up for lack of distance off the tee.

Viktor Hovland wins BMW Championship

Hovland started the final round of BMW Championship multiple shots behind the lead. Hovland shot a front nine of 33 but made seven birdies on the back nine to shoot 28. It was an incredible display of ball striking by Hovland as his back nine of 28 was good enough to win the BMW Championship. Hovland’s win was a huge confidence boost as he went on to win 2023 FedEx Cup at East Lake.

Tiger Woods returns to the fairways

It’s seven months since Woods played at Augusta but returned to professional golf at the season ending Hero World Challenge. It’s incredible that Woods is alive let alone out walking and playing a round of golf. His upper body is much bigger now and his swing looked good at Albony. Since Hero World Challenge Woods finished in the top five with his son Charley at the PNC Championship. Woods said that he will play one tournament a month next year which is going to be fantastic. It’s great to have Woods healthy and back playing professional golf.

2023 Ryder Cup

Tommy Fleetwood’s tee shot was unbelievable and this was the shot that won 2023 Ryder Cup for Europe. Rory McIlroy lead by example as he won four points at Marco Simone. Viktor Hovland continued his excellent form from East Lake as he won three and a half points at Marco Simone. USA had too much to make up after losing the opening session four nil. Shane Lowry won his first match with Sepp Straka and came from behind to earn a half against Jordan Spieth in the singles. Luke Donald and all his vice-captains done a massive job as Europe remain unbeaten at home in the Ryder Cup.

DP World Tour Championship

Rory McIlroy won his fifth Race to Dubai title before the DP World Tour Championship started. The final round of the DP World Tour Championship was a fantastic watch as Nicolai Hojgaard came from behind to win at the Earth Course. It looked for a while that Tommy Fleetwood would win but came up short and settled for a tied second finish. A great initiative from the DP World Tour as 10 players at the Earth Course earned PGA Tour cards for next season. The round of this tournament was on day three as Matt Wallace shot a back nine of 27 to shoot 60. It was also brillant that DP World Tour maiden winner Tom McKibbin played at the Earth Course.
