Two away wins on Super Sunday

The first match on Sunday in the Premier League was Tottenham Hotspur against Aston Villa. It could have easily been two goals early on as Dejan Kulusevski hit the post and Paul Torres had a free header from a corner. Spurs dominated the first half but squandered great chances. Giovanni Lo Celso gave Spurs a well deserved lead after a fantastic finish in the 22nd minute. In the 27th minute Matty Cash put in a late tackle on Rodrigo Bentancur which resulted in the Spurs player leaving the pitch. Cash received a yellow card for this tackle but in my opinion he was extremely lucky not to get sent off.

As the first half went on Spurs continued to create chances but couldn’t score a second goal. Both Ollie Watkins and  Son Heung-Min scored in the first half but were disallowed by VAR. At the end of the first half Aston Villa were rewarded a free-kick. A sensational cross from Douglas Luiz and a excellent finish by Torres gave Aston Villa an undeserved equaliser.

Aston Villa played on the counter attack in the second half through the creativity of Youri Tielemans and the pace of Leon Bailey. A fantastic luxury in been able to bring on Tielemans at half time as he was a brillant signing from Leicester. Aston Villa went ahead after an assist from Tielemans and an extraordinary finish from Watkins. Spurs still created chances through Son & Brennan Johnson and would of equalised only for excellent saves from Emiliano Martinez. Son had a great opportunity to level the game late on which he put narrowly wide.

Aston Villa are now in the top four on 28 points after this win. Unai Emery has done a extraordinary job with Aston Villa as they have now won 22 Premier League games in 2023. Aston Villa’s next game is against Bournemouth before they take on Arsenal and Manchester City. Spurs have now lost three games in a row but are missing 10 players due to injury.

The second game was between Everton and Manchester United at Goodison Park. This was the first game since Everton were deducted 10 points. Alejandro Garnacho scored a unbelievable over head kick after three minutes. Garnacho’s over head kick is as good as Wayne Rooney’s against Manchester City in 2011. Garnacho’s over head kick is the best goal so far this season in the Premier League.

Man United started to pass the ball around and lost it several times which gave Everton encouragement. Everton had multiple chances in the first half through Dominic Calwert-Lewin, Idrissa Gueye and Abdoulaye Doucoure but failed to score an equaliser. It was incredible that Man United went into half time with a one nil lead. Kobbie Mainoo made his first Premier League start for Man United and was exceptional especially with a goal line clearance in the first half.

In the 56th minute Anthony Martial was given a yellow card for diving but went to VAR due to Ashley Young catching the forward. Referee John Brooks went to the monitor to look at the challenge then awarded Man United a penalty. Young was lucky that he didn’t receive a second yellow for given away the penalty. Martial’s yellow card was rescinded for diving due to the penalty been awarded. Bruno Fernandes is normally Man United’s penalty taker but gave the ball to Marcus Rashford to build up his confidence. Rashford made it two nil after a powerful penalty.

Another fantastic assist by Fernandes as Martial made it three nil. The game finished three nil and this is Man United’s biggest win this season. As poor as Man United have been this season they are only four points off top four. It doesn’t get any easier for Man United as they have to play Newcastle, Aston Villa, West Ham, Chelsea and Liverpool in December.
