Frank Lampard continues to struggle as a manager
Football
Frank Lampard signed for Chelsea in 2001 from West Ham United on a fee of £11 million. Lampard played as a midfielder for 13 years and holds the record for been Chelsea highest ever goal scorer with 211 goals. Lampard won three Premier League titles and the 2011/2012 UEFA Champions League with Chelsea. Lampard left Chelsea for New York City in 2014 but returned to play in the Premier League with Manchester City for three years before retiring in 2017. Lampard did a bit of punditry with BT Sport before taking over Derby County as manager in 2018.
Derby
Lampard only had one full season as manager of Derby County which was the 2018/2019 Sky Bet Championship. Lampard was involved in spy gate as he accused Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa spying on Derby’s training ground before their Championship game at Pride Park. Lampard got revenge as Derby beat Leeds in the semi-final of the 2018/2019 Sky Bet Championship play-offs. Lampard was disappointed as Derby lost the 2018/2019 Sky Bet Championship play-off final 2-1 to Aston Villa. His time as Derby County manager came to an end in July 2019 as Frank Lampard was appointed manager of Chelsea.
Transfer
Chelsea were banned by FIFA to sign new players in both the 2019 Summer transfer window and 2020 January transfer window. Lampard suffered a terrible start as Chelsea manager with losing his first Premier League match by a score line of four nil to Manchester United at Old Trafford. Lampard won 20 Premier League matches in his first season as Chelsea manager and was a great return with a young squad. Leicester lost their final game of 2019/2020 Premier League season which meant that Chelsea finished the season in fourth place.
Signings
Chelsea signed both Kai Havertz and Timo Werner in the 2020 Summer transfer window. Chelsea were amazing in the first half of 2020/2021 Premier League season as they went top after beating Leeds 3-1 in December 2020. Chelsea lost 3-1 in a Premier League game to Man City in January 2021 and ended up in ninth position after this defeat. Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich sacked Lampard after the defeat to Man City and was only in charge for 19 months. My opinion is that Chelsea should of gave Lampard more time with only been a young manager.
Everton
Lampard took time off after been sacked by Chelsea and was appointed manager of Everton in January 2022. Lampard had multiple low days during the 2021/2022 Premier League season with losing at home to Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa and away to Southampton, Newcastle United and Norwich City. Everton were fighting for their Premier League survival but got huge one nil wins against both Manchester United and Chelsea in both April and May 2022. Lampard was relieved as Everton confirmed their status in the Premier League for another season after coming from behind to win 3-2 against Crystal Palace.
2022/2023 Premier League
Everton signed Wolves defender Conor Coady on loan and Brighton winger Neil Maupay on a permanent transfer. Everton had to wait until Sunday 18th of September 2022 for their first Premier League win of the season against West Ham at Goodison Park. Their home form has been terrible as Everton have only won two games at Goodison Park in the 2022/2023 Premier League. Everton got two fantastic draws in the Premier League this season against both Liverpool and Man City. They were hammered in their last home game in losing 4-1 to Brighton. Everton are currently in the bottom three of the Premier League and it will be a challenge to guarantee survival in the second half of the season.
Everton played well against Man United in their Fa Cup third round game but conceded three goals. Lampard has a massive job on his hands and my opinion is that he is under massive pressure to keep his job. It would be a disaster if Everton were relegated from the Premier League but you are in trouble when you don’t win many games in the league. Everton need to buy a striker as they have struggled without the services of Dominic Calwert-Lewin due to multiple injuries.
