Nedbank Golf Challenge preview
Tommy Fleetwood is looking to win his third Nedbank Golf Challenge in a row after winning in both 2019 and 2022. Six players from 2023 Ryder Cup are in the field for this event which includes Max Homa, Justin Rose and Justin Thomas. Gary Player Golf Course is yet again the venue for this year’s Nedbank Golf Challenge. It’s the second last event on the schedule in 2023 for the DP World Tour.
Ryan Fox finished second in the 2022 Nedbank Golf Challenge. Fox has returned to great form in the last few months with finishing in a tie for third at the Irish Open, winning the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth and a tied for second at the Alfred Dunhill Links. Fox’s win at Wentworth was incredible against a world class field which included Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm. Fox is currently ranked fourth in the Race to Dubai rankings and is in a great position to earn a PGA Tour card for next year. I think Fox will win the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
Robert MacIntyre finished in a tie for eight in the 2019 Nedbank Golf Challenge. MacIntyre had a memorable Ryder Cup at Marco Simone as he won 1.5 points with Justin Rose. MacIntyre finished in a tied for sixth at last week’s Commercial Qatar Masters. I think MacIntyre will finish in the top five.
Fleetwood was outstanding with McIlroy in the Ryder Cup and won the decisive point against Rickie Fowler in the singles. Fleetwood is coming into this event a little bit rusty as he hasn’t played a tournament since the Alfred Dunhill Links in early October. Fleetwood loves this course with winning the last two Nedbank Golf Challenge titles. The Englishman is the best at having a bad opening round and still manages to be up there at the top of a leaderboard on the final day. I think Fleetwood will finish in the top five.
Matt Wallace finished in a tie for ninth at the recent Commercial Qatar Masters. Wallace finished in a tie for fifth in the 2018 Nedbank Golf Challenge. Wallace is looking to continue his good form from Qatar into this week’s event. Wallace is currently 55th in the Race to Dubai Rankings and needs a good week to qualify himself for next week’s DP World Tour Championship. I think Wallace will finish in the top 10.
Max Homa is currently ranked number eight in the world golf rankings. Homa was amazing in the Ryder Cup as he won 3.5 points from five matches. It’s great to see that Homa is playing in this week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge. Homa is a fantastic player and is capable of winning a major in the future. I think Homa will finish in the top 10.
It would also be fantastic if Tom McKibbin could have another great week. Hope you enjoy the Nedbank Golf Challenge.
