Rory McIlroy shoots -11 over the weekend as Robert MacIntyre wins his first PGA Tour event

Rory McIlroy -2 shot an impressive third round of 65 which included an eagle at the reachable par five fourth hole. McIlroy -7 played Sunday’s final round with Tom Kim and trailed 54 -14 leader MacIntyre by seven shots.

Two-time RBC Canadian Open champion got off to a perfect start with a birdie at the first hole to reach -8. McIlroy advanced to -11 due to three birdies in a row at the fourth, fifth and sixth hole. McIlroy shot an excellent front nine of -4 and headed to 10th tee three behind -14 leader MacIntyre. McIlroy achieved his fifth birdie of Sunday’s round at 12 and within three shots of MacIntyre. 2023 Europe Ryder Cup participant -16 took a three-shot lead over Kim into the back nine.

MacIntyre dropped back to -15 due to two poor iron shots at 12 & 13 and McIlroy & Victor Perez are Scotsman’s nearest challengers on -13. McIlroy shot an incredible round of 64 to finish -13. Three great rounds in the 60s but a damaging 72 on Friday cost McIlroy from winning his third RBC Canadian Open. Perez held an excellent birdie putt at 18 to shoot 64 and set a clubhouse target of -14. Ben Griffin achieved three birdies in a row at 15, 16, 17 to reach -15 and trim MacIntyre’s -16 lead to one shot with one hole to play. An incredible iron shot from the Scotsman at 18, a closing par was good enough for MacIntyre to shoot 68 and win RBC Canadian Open.

MacIntyre received a winners cheque of $1.7 million for maiden America win. Griffin finished second on -15 and earned $1 million. Perez finished third on -14 and earned $648,600. McIlroy & Kim shot a combined -22 on Saturday and Sunday to finish tied fourth on -13. Corey Conners was the highest Canadian finished sixth on -12 and earned $340,800.

Shane Lowry opened up 2024 RBC Canadian Open with a disappointing +2 round of 72. The Offaly native battled with a -2 round on Friday to make halfway cut on even par. Lowry’s third round included two birdies at the difficult 13th and 16th hole to finish -2. Lowry played alongside CT Pan for Sunday’s final round. Lowry’s front nine of -2 included an impressive birdie at the difficult par three eight hole. The Offaly native shot a back nine of level par to finish tied 33rd on -4.

Green Eagle Golf Course is a par 73 and hosted DP World Tour European Open and the venue were Tom McKibbin won his first professional event 12 months ago. McKibbin -8 shot rounds of 69,71,71 and started the final round four shots behind -12 leader Laurie Canter. The Northern Irishman’s final round of 74 included a birdie at 18 to finish tied eight on -7. McKibbin earned $47,600. Canter -13 got the better of Bernd Wiesberger to win European Open and receive a winners cheque of $392,800.

Lancaster Country Club hosted US Women’s Open the second major of 2024. +9 was the halfway cut and world number one Nelly Korda and Leona Maguire were forced to have a weekend off. Minjee Lee, Andrea Lee and Wichanee Meechai headed into Sunday’s final round tied first on -5. The par 70 layout played extremely difficult as only three players finished under par and was won by -4 Yuka Saso.
