Leinster vs Munster

Golf Voyager host a yearly golf event in Portugal at the last weekend of January. Players from all over Leinster which includes former Leinster rugby player Shane Byrne takes on players from the Munster area including former Munster rugby player David Wallace.. it is a great way of meeting new people and having plenty of craic with a load of lads. It could not go ahead in 2021 but it was great that it returned to the calendar in 2022.

The 2022 Algarve Golf Challenge was moved to Vale de Lpbo. This was my 2nd Algarve Golf Challenge to participate in. With playing a lot serious competitions throughout the year, it's nice to start the year with a light hearted competition. The format is a doubles competition with both scores counting on both 9th and 18th.

Myself and my dad play as a pair in this event with my dad also guiding me as I have a visual impairment. Vale de Lobo has two golf courses Royal and Ocean course. It was nice to play two rounds on two different golf courses. Myself and my dad played Ocean on day one and the Royal on day two.

The first day was difficult with there been a strong breeze on the Ocean course. Myself and my dad had a good game against Barry Quinn and Jamie Lafferty which ended in a draw. Day two was much calmer for our game on the Royal course. The picture below shows me taking my tee shot on the signature par 3 16th on the Royal course. Myself and my dad got a combined six points on the final hole but wasn't enough as we lost out on day two to Fintan Ward and Darragh.

Munster won the 2022 Algarve Golf Challenge at Vale de Lobo. Leinster will be looking to win back in 2023. Looking forward to returning to Vale de Lobo as it's a great way to start the year. A fantastic event which is ran brillantly by Golf Voyager.
