Waste Management Phoenix Open preview

2024 Waste Management Phoenix Open will be played at TPC Scottsdale. This tournament is famous for been noisy and beer showers at iconic par three 16th hole. World number one Scottie Scheffler is looking to win this event for a third year in a row. Scheffler isn’t the only major champion in the field as Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Matt Fitzpatrick and Wyndham Clark are also participating in Phoenix. The players will be looking forward to playing after the final round of last week’s AT &T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was postponed due to bad weather. Irishmen Shane Lowry and Seamus Power are also participating in Phoenix.

Justin Thomas finished tied third in 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open. In 2021 edition Thomas finished in a tie for 13th. Two-time PGA Championship winner finished tied eight in 2022 Waste Management Phoenix Open. In 2023 edition Thomas shot a final round of six under to finish fourth. Thomas has started 2024 in good form with a tied third at The American Express Open and a tied sixth at Pebble Beach Pro-Am. I think Thomas will win this weekend due to having a great record in this event.

Sahith Theegala finished tied third in 2022 Waste Management Phoenix Open. In 2023 Theegala won his first event at the Fortinet Championship. Theegala shot an incredible round of 63 to finish second at 2024 The Sentry. Theegala is currently 22nd in World Golf Rankings. I think Theegala will finish in the top five.

Thomas Detry started 2024 with a tied 20th finish at Farmers Insurance Open. Detry was tied for the lead after two rounds of Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Detry held his own by shooting a third round of three under playing with Ludvig Aberg and Scheffler. The Pebble Beach Pro-Am was shortened to 54 holes due to bad weather and Detry finished in a tie for fourth. Detry hasn’t won on either DP World Tour or PGA Tour but isn’t far away from winning a tournament due to his recent performance at Pebble Beach. I think Detry will finish in the top five.

Billy Horschel finished in a tie for ninth in 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open. In 2021 Horschel won on the DP World Tour at BMW PGA Championship. In 2022 edition Horschel finished in a tie for sixth. It was sad to see Horschel shoot 84 at The Memorial in 2023 but rallied a few months later by finishing fourth at Wyndham Championship. I think Horschel will finish in the top 10.

Ryan Fox won 2023 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth. Fox earned 2024 PGA Tour card through 2023 DP World Tour Rankings. Fox has played three times in 2024 on both DP World Tour & PGA Tour and his best finish was a tied 14th at Dubai Invitational. I think Fox will kick start his season this week with a top 10 finish.

It would be great if either Lowry or Power played well this week in Phoenix. Hope you enjoy the Waste Management Phoenix Open.
