My time with Dublin South FM

One of the fears that I had as a visually impaired person is that I could never get work placement or a job because of the sight which is an easy way out but all that changed when I done work experience with Dublin South FM in 2019 for 10 weeks last year from September to Christmas

When I first started, I was a bit nervous because I’ve never done work experience like that before but I also didn’t know what to expect by doing work placement in a radio station

While I was there throughout the placement I really enjoyed it by putting together 3 1 hour music shows which included music that I picked plus some interesting and funny facts that I did throughout the show and as it was coming up to Christmas I put together a Christmas playlist which was great and I advertised on the social media platforms and all my family and friends tuned into the shows when they were on air I was really chuffed that I was able to put together 3 1 hour shows which included script and music and the people that listened really enjoyed jit so that was some good feedback that was nice to hear

I would recommend anyone to do work experience at this station because all the fellow staff are very polite, accommodating and friendly while I was there

As a visually impaired person I thought that the daily tasks were very accessible when picking songs on you tube and putting them in folders all the keyboard shortcuts came in handy so if you know them they will get you out of a hole also in the studio is easy to get around by feeling all the devices to put together a show is by putting on the head phones and talking into a mike and if you wanted something someone would should me to be honest anyone can put together a show the hardest part is getting the content and after that its straight forward

It will take a bit linget as a visually impaired person to do daily tasks but not impossible or impractical with a bit of help and assistant anything is possible as I found out on this placement and if you want to do regardless whether you’re visually impair not there’s no reason why you can’t do it that’s what I think
