A Monday finish at Harbour Town as Scottie Scheffler wins his fourth PGA Tour event in 2024
World number one Scottie Scheffler -16 shot rounds of 69, 65, 63 and took a one-shot lead over Sepp Straka -15 into Sunday’s final round. Scheffler reached -18 due to holing his third shot at the second hole for an exceptional eagle. Straka dropped back to -14 due to a bogey at the third hole. 2024 Masters champion continued to impress as he reached -19 due to a birdie at the fifth hole. Straka made a birdie at eight to return -13. Scheffler -19 is top of PGA Tour Bogey Avoidance category and took a three-shot lead over Patrick Rodgers -16 to 10th tee.
Sahith Theegala -13 held his birdie putt at 11 to reach -15. Collin Morikawa -14 made a long-range putt for birdie at 11 to reach -15. Wyndham Clark -9 shot a sensational front nine of 29 to reach -16. Clark’s birdie run came to an end at 12 due to his second shot hitting a tree, going out of bounds and resulted in a double bogey. Patrick Cantlay -12 made three birdies in six holes to reach -15. Clark shot a final round of 65 and is tied second on -15 with Theegala, Morikawa and Cantlay.
Scheffler made it extremely difficult for the above mentioned chasing pack as he held a six-foot birdie putt at 13 to reach -20. A rare mistake by Scheffler as his second shot at 15 found the water but still managed to escape with a par. A bogey at 18 was good enough for Scheffler to be crowned as RBC Heritage champion. The world number one has won 10 tournaments in three years which includes two Masters and Players Championship titles. In 2024 Scheffler has shot 30 rounds in the 60s and earned $15.7 million in prize money.
Theegala finished best of the rest in second on -16 and earned $2,180,000. 2023 USA Ryder Cup teammates Clark& Cantlay finished tied third -15 and both earned $1,180,000. Two-time PGA Championship winner Justin Thomas -8 shot an excellent round of 65 to finish tied fifth on -14. JT Poston, Straka and Rodgers also finished tied fifth on -14. Morikawa finished ninth on -13 and Ludvig Aberg & Chris Kirk made up the top ten tied on -12.
Seamus Power shot rounds of 65, 70, 68 and started Sunday’s round -11. Power shot a final round of 72, finished tied 12th and earned $397,000. Rory McIlroy shot rounds of 67,68,68 and started the final round six shots behind Scheffler on -10. McIlroy’s front nine of +1 included a double bogey at the fourth hole. The four-time major champion failed to achieve a birdie on the back nine and finished with a disappointing double bogey at 18. McIlroy finished in a disappointing tied 33rd on -7.
