2022 Masters champion and world number one Scottie Scheffler takes a one-shot lead into Sunday’s final round at Augusta

Scottie Scheffler shot rounds of 66 & 72 and started day three on -6. Scheffler’s playing partner for Saturday was Nicolai Hojgaard. The 2022 Masters champion got off to a perfect start with chipping in for birdie at one to reach -7. Scheffler stretched his lead at the top of leaderboard to two shots on -8 due to holing a 40 foot birdie putt at three. Scheffler shot a front nine of 35 and headed to 10th tee -7. A rare mistake at 10 by Scheffler as his second shot ended up off the green and resulted in a double bogey.

Hojgaard -4 made three birdies in a row at eight, nine & 10 and became the new leader on -7. Hojgaard’s lead didn’t last long due to playing holes 11 to 15 in +6. Two-time major champion Collin Morikawa -3 shot a front nine of 33 to reach -6. Saturday’s final group was Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa both -6. DeChambeau returned to -6 due to an incredible birdie at 10. At the start of Saturday’s back nine Morikawa, DeChambeau and Homa were all joint leaders on -6.

Ludvig Aberg -2 played the third round with Matthieu Pavon. Aberg wasn’t faced with this been his first Masters as he played the front nine in 33 to reach -5. Aberg advanced to -6 with a birdie at 13 but dropped back to -5 due to a bogey at 14. Scheffler -4 advanced to -6 due to an incredible eagle at 13. DeChambeau kept his hopes of a win alive as he returned to -6 with a birdie at 14. 2023 Ryder Cup star Homa was steady as he only dropped one shot on the back nine.

An exhibition of short game play by Morikawa to shoot a round of 69. Scheffler headed to 18th tee tied for lead -6 with Morikawa. Scheffler finished with a fantastic birdie to shoot a round of 71. Scheffler leader -7 will play in Sunday’s final group with Morikawa -6.

Homa shot a round of 73 and will start the final round -5. Aberg continued to impress as he shot his second consecutive round of under par to shoot 70. Aberg -4 will play in the second last group with Homa. 2020 US Open winner DeChambeau finished his round by holing his third shot for birdie at 18 to shoot 75. DeChambeau is currently four shots behind Scheffler on -3. DeChambeau would be a controversial winner due to been a member of LIV Tour.

Hojgaard, Cameron Davis and Xander Schauffele will all head into Sunday’s round tied sixth on -2. Cameron Smith, Cameron Young, Tommy Fleetwood and Byeong-hun An are all tied ninth on -1. Patrick Cantlay level par and Matt Fitzpatrick +1 both have the game to shoot a good final round.

Rory McIlroy played round one and two in 148 shots and started Saturday’s round on +4. The four-time major champion played his third round with Camilo Villegas. McIlroy remained +4 due to playing holes one and two in nine shots. The Northern Irishman missed two short putts for birdie at seven & nine and headed to 10th tee +4. McIlroy relied on his short game to remain +4 due to only hitting six out of 12 Greens in Regulation.

Over the three days McIlroy has played 12 par 5s in a disappointing -2. McIlroy finished his round with three pars to shoot a -1 71. McIlroy will start day four in a tie for 21st on +3. McIlroy is currently four shots behind tied ninth -1 and hopefully a good final round will receive a top 10 finish. Shane Lowry made the halfway cut and started day three +3. The highlight of Lowry’s round of 75 was holing his second shot for eagle at 14 and will start Sunday +6.

Five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods made his 24th consecutive cut at Augusta which is a new record. It was remarkable that Woods had a Saturday tee time as he only played one competitive round before Augusta. Woods shot rounds of 73 & 72 and started day three +1. The 15 time major champion played the third round with Tyrrell Hatton. Woods dropped a shot at the fourth hole but responded brillantly with a birdie at five to return +1. An extremely poor finish to the front nine by Woods as he played holes six to nine in +6.

The effects of Woods playing 23 holes on Friday started to show and resulted in shooting a poor round of 82. 15 time major champion will start day four +11 and Sunday at Augusta will be Woods 100th time. Even though Woods won’t win this year it’s been fantastic just to have him playing at Augusta. Hopefully Woods can finish with an under-par round.
