Rory McIlroy puts an end to the drought

Rory McIlroy has struggled since his Pga Tour win at Wells Fargo Championship earlier this Summer. McIlroy has found it hard to play in front of crowds again. McIlroy wasn’t firing on all cylinders in the majors this year with been too inconsistent with his wedge game. At the Ryder Cup for the first two days McIlroy didn’t look himself and was hurt when dropped by European Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington. On singles Sunday McIlroy was back to himself with big long accurate drives and getting wedge shots closer to the hole. After his win McIlroy got very emotional in his interview and genuinely felt disappointed in not performing. That interview hit home by showing that it’s tough to perform at your best all the time.

After the Ryder Cup McIlroy done a lot of reflection and worked on his game for his next tournament. It was confirmed that McIlroy would tee it up at The CJ Cup in Los Vegas in mid-October. In the first round McIlroy shot four under and it would been a lot lower only for a triple bogey on the 17th hole. On day two McIlroy shot a five under round to leave him at nine under going into the weekend.

On day three McIlroy showed that he is still the best player int the world with a superb ten under par round. McIlroy was hitting big drives with a three wood and his putting was unbelievable all down to tireless work that McIlroy does with his putting coach Brad Faxon. McIlroy was two behind going into the final round he hasn’t won a tournament in four months. McIlroy shoot a three under front nine and was tied with Collin Morikawa going into the back nine. McIlroy piled on the pressure with a fantastic birdie at the short 12th which put him in the lead. The 14th was a Par five McIlroy was short of the green in two and made an unbelievable putt for eagle to give himself a cushion with four holes to go.

McIlroy held on and won his first tournament of the 2021/2022 Pga Tour season. This win puts McIlroy back in the top ten of World Ranking were he belongs. This win shows that McIlroy still has game.

In my opinion McIlroy is still the best player in golf when he is in full flow like his win at CJ Cup a few weeks ago.
