Everton are a mess

Sean Dyche was appointed manager of Everton on Monday 30th of January 2023. Dyche managed Burnley for nine and a half years before losing his job in April 2022. Dyche achieved promotion with Burnley in 2015/2016 season and done a great job of avoiding the drop for many years in the Premier League. Dyche won 72 matches while he was in charge at Burnley for almost seven seasons in the Premier League. Burnley made a mistake in sacking Dyche as they were relegated from the Premier League  on the final day of 2021/2022 season.

Dyche is a good manager and it was expected that he would get another job in the Premier League. With Everton currently in the bottom three of the Premier League it was a good choice to appoint Dyche as manager. He knows a few players well from his days as Burnley manager which includes James Tarkowski and Dwight McNeil. Dyche relied on the experience of Everton defenders Conor Coady, Tarkowski and Seamus Coleman as Everton got a well earned win in his first game as manager against top of the table Arsenal.

Dyche is a good manager but he has a tough job ahead of him as he is the tenth manager to be appointed at Everton since 2016. Top managers have struggled at Everton which includes Champions League winners Carlo Ancelotti and Rafa Benitez. Everton sold attacking midfielder Anthony Gordon to Newcastle for £60 million in January transfer window. 14 players turned down Everton on deadline day which included former Chelsea and Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud. Everton ended up signing nobody in the January transfer window.

Everton were taken over by Farhad Moshiri in February 2016. Everton have spent £700 million on 50 players since Moshiri has been involved as owner. Some of the signings have been questionable which includes signing Neil Maupay on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. Maupay is not reliable for scoring a goal as he only scored 26 goals from 102 appearances at Brighton. Maupay has only scored one goal since joining Everton in August 2022.

Everton are planning to move into a new stadium for the 2024/2025 season. The name of new venue will be Everton Stadium as they don’t have a sponsor at the moment. It will cost Everton around £500 million to build their new stadium. The future of Everton football club is uncertain as owner Farhad Moshiri has put the club up for sale. It will cost over £500 million to get Moshiri out of Everton. My opinion is that he is trying to get out as their has been a lot of pressure put on him since the bad results this season.

Each club earns £79 million for avoiding relegation from the Premier League. Huge pressure on keeping a team in the Premier League due to reward of money. Everton are currently on 18 points after playing 21 games of 2022/2023 Premier League season. 40 points is usually the magic number for survival which means Everton will have to achieve 22 points from their remaining 17 games. Every game will not be easy as every team is playing for something by either trying to avoid relegation or trying to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Their has been six years of bad signings and managers since Moshiri has bought Everton in 2016. Dyche is under huge pressure to keep Everton in the Premier League but it wouldn’t be his fault if they got relegated. It will be interesting to see how it goes over the next few months with Dyche in charge at Goodison Park.
