Rugby World Cup semi-finals

The first semi-final is tonight at 8pm between New Zealand and Argentina. Argentina are lucky to be in the semi-final due to a bad mistake by replacement referee Karl Dickson against Wales in the quarter-final. Argentina have gathered momentum after wins against Japan and Wales. Ireland had success against New Zealand in the wing areas and at the mall with a try. Argentina will have to play their best performance and hope New Zealand are not at 100%.

Ardie Savea was incredible with a Player Of The Match performance against Ireland. All Blacks will be looking for another sensational performance from Savea especially wat the breakdown. New Zealand are strong in the backs with Beaudon Barrett, Jordie Barrett and Richie M’unga. New Zealand also have Damian McKenzie on the bench to come on and make a difference. The Joe Schmidt factor as a coach has made a huge influence and has been a great addition to the All Blacks.

Score prediction New Zealand to win by seven points.

The second semi-final is between England and South Africa. This is a repeat of the 2019 Rugby World Cup final. England had an easier draw and advanced to the semi-final after a six point win against Fiji. England’s strength in their wins has been their kicking game especially with the reintroduction of Owen Farrell. England made three changes for the semi-final with Freddie Steward coming back into the team at full-back.

South Africa lost narrowly to Ireland and came second in the group. The Springboks played France in the quarter-final and the first half was one of the best half’s of rugby in years. Cheslin Kolbe charged down and blocked one of France’s kicks which was incredible. Farrell has to be careful because Kolbe will be looking to do this again in the semi-final.

South Africa are very good under the high ball and this is why England have brought Steward back into the starting line-up. Handre Pollard and Faf de Klerk are yet again on the bench for the semi-final but these will make a difference when they enter the pitch in the second half. South Africa coach Felix Jones is Irish and is looking to win his second World Cup. England have improved but the physicality of South Africia will have too much for Stephen Bortwick’s men.

Score prediction South Africa to win by 10 points.

It would be great if the two semi-finals are close but it’s hard to see an upset in these two games. It would be a fantastic final if New Zealand and South Africa both make it there. It has been a great Rugby World Cup despite the disappointment for Ireland.

Hope you enjoy the two Rugby World Cup semi-finals over the weekend.
