BMW Championship
My predictions for the BMW Championship. It’s the second FedEx Cup play-off event. The top 50 players after Memphis qualify for this event. The event returns to Olympia Fields this is the venue were Jon Rahm won in 2020.
Rory McIlroy finished in a tie for 12th in 2020 which was also played at Olympia Fields. 2020 wasn’t the only successful BMW Championship for McIlroy as he finished eight in 2021 and fourth in 2022. McIlroy is in great form after winning the Genesis Scottish Open then following it up with two top five finishes at The Open and FedEx St Jude Classic. With currently third in the FedEx Cup rankings it’s a great opportunity to close the gap on leader Scottie Scheffler. I think McIlroy will win the BMW Championship.
Tommy Fleetwood is playing brillantly lately as he finished sixth in the Genesis Scottish Open, a tied for 10th finish at The Open and a tied for third at the FedEx St Jude Classic. Fleetwood is currently 10th in the FedEx Cup rankings and a great finish will give him a chance at East Lake. It’s great to see Fleetwood playing well as he will play a vital role in Rome for Luke Donald’s men. I think Fleetwood will finish in the top five.
Max Homa is starting to play well in the big events as he finished in a tie for 10th at The Open. He followed that up with three rounds in the 60s to finish in a tie for sixth at the FedExST Jude Classic. Homa is currently sixth in the FedEx Cup rankings and is more than capable of winning the BMW Championship. I think Homa has the best chance of an American winning the BMW Championship and I believe he will finish in the top five.
Sepp Straka is currently 24th in the FedEx Cup rankings and need a good week to confirm his place in East Lake. Straka played great at Royal Liverpool finishing in a tie for second but has struggled since then missing a cut at 3M Open and a 63rd at the FedEx St Jude Classic. Straka is a definite for Luke Donald’s team but needs to be going into the Ryder Cup in good form. I think Straka will finish in the top 10.
Chris Kirk is currently 29th in the FedEx Cup rankings. Kirk needs a good week to confirm his place in the top 30 for East Lake. I think he will finish in the top 10.
It’s going to be a great event with so many great players in the field which includes Patrick Cantlay attempting to win his third BMW Championship in a row. It would be fantastic if Seamus Power was able to have a great week as he needs to start playing well with the Ryder Cup around the corner. Hope you enjoy the BMW Championship.
